2010 COACHES WILL BE POSTED WHEN AVAILABLE

Placement - Pop Warner does not permit tryouts. Instead registrants are placed on an age appropriate team, on a first come first served basis. Participant’s age as of July 31 is the age for the season.

While requests for specific placement can be made, we cannot guarantee that the request will be granted. Team placements will be announced by the beginning of July; however, changes can and may be made up until August.

The following are the general guidelines for Wall Pop Warner Cheer. Head Coaches may have additional requirements that are team specific.

Practice - August 1st starts the Pop Warner season and practice for this month will be at the Wall Pop Warner field complex for all squads. Practice for August will be Monday through Friday, 6-8pm for all competitive teams. Non competitive teams will be advised of their schedule by their Head Coach. On the first day of practice each cheerleader should bring with them three copies of their last report card, showing all four marking periods; and current medical documentation stating that the child has been examined by a physician and is physically fit to participate in cheerleading. It must have the physician’s original signature. Also, each parent must have completed a Sport Parent Code of Conduct agreement at registration. If you did not complete this agreement at registration, it must be received prior to August 1 in order for your child to take the field.

During September and October, alternative areas will be available for the Flag and Mitey Mite teams in the event of inclement weather and will be at the coaches discretion. Practice for competitive teams will go down to 3 days a week, 2 hours each day and will be at the Field House located at the Field Complex. That schedule will be handed out sometime in August. Should it become necessary for a team to continue practice into November and/or December the same schedule, 2 hour days 3 times a week, will apply.

Commitment - Following the initial 20 hours (or two weeks) of conditioning/practice, the regular practice season can begin which means preparing for competition. The girls will be learning stunts, formations, dance and cheer segments and all other aspects of their competition routine. When one cheerleader misses a practice it has a major impact on the rest of the squad, and even more specifically on that cheerleader’s stunt group. Therefore, unless illness occurs, cheerleaders must be at all practices! If an emergency or personal issue arises, please notify the head coach as soon as possible! This sport requires a real dedication and each parent will be asked to read and sign a Commitment Agreement before September 1 on behalf of them and their daughter, that will spell out the attendance policy and commitment required.

Games - The game season usually begins the last week of August with a Friendship Bowl, making a total of nine games for the regular football season that finishes by the end of October. If a football team makes the playoffs, games will continue into November and possibly into December. Cheerleaders are required to cheer at all games. The only exception will be if a cheer competition falls on the same day as a football game. Home games are played on Saturdays and Sundays; and away games are usually on Sundays. Make-up games for rainouts are usually played during the week. Days and times for each team are scheduled on a weekly basis and as soon as they are known will be passed on to you.

Competition - The first competition is on or about the third week of October and is our local – Jersey Shore. Squads have 2 minutes and 30 seconds to perform a routine consisting of cheer, dance, stunts, and tumbling. Qualifications to move on are determined by placement and placement criteria are determined by how many teams compete in that division. If a team’s placement qualifies them to move on, the next competition is the following week – Central Jersey Qualifier. If a squad qualifies at that competition, they move on to the Eastern Regionals which are usually the third week of November. The Jersey Shore, Central Qualifier and Eastern Regional Competitions all take place at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ. Should a team place first or second in their division at the Eastern Regional Competition they will be competing at the Pop Warner National Cheer Championships at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. This usually takes place the second week of December.

Costs - While your registration fee covers uniforms, equipment & practice facility, competition fees, patches, trophies, insurance and administrative costs it will cost more once the season begins. Your daughter will need: a practice uniform; unifit for under her uniform; competition sneakers, socks and bloomers; warm up suit and bag; game and competition bow; and cheer curls. Other costs may include competition tickets; bus rental; t-shirts and more. Should your squad qualify for nationals in Florida; fundraising will be available to help offset the cost of the trip.

Uniform - In August, your daughter will be fitted for a uniform which serves as both her game and competition uniform. At that time two checks will be collected; one in the amount of $100 and one in the amount of $10. The $100 check will be returned when the uniform is returned in full. If the uniform is not returned by the deadline, the $100 will be cashed. The $10 check will be returned provided the uniform is returned clean, undamaged and unaltered in any way; otherwise the $10 will be kept used for any repairs or cleaning needed
